Preventing Winter Blues

It’s cold, the green and colors of fall have faded, the holidays have sped past, and the sky is dreary. Sounds like the perfect recipe for curling up on the couch and hibernating until spring.

But there are ways to get that spring back in your step before… well, spring. Try to fight the urge to shut down and get up and active. Exercise, healthy eating and sunlight can do a great deal for your mind. Make an effort to keep moving, make healthy choices and choose to sit near a window when you are indoors.

Spend time with friends. Scheduling an outing in advance gives you something to look forward to, and that’s a good thing.

And don’t forget to smile and laugh. Watch funny movies, read a good book, or do something you enjoy with friends. You could even check two ideas off your list at one time and schedule a night out at a comedy club with friends!

Can’t shake the feeling? Winter blues can be something more serious. If you feel depressed, please talk with your doctor to figure out the best plan for you.
