Comfort vs. Style – You can meet in the middle.
There is a mother I see dropping her kids off at school everyday in her frumpy pajamas.  Not in the car lane, but walking in to the school.  Okay, I gave her the benefit of the doubt, it’s early and it’s a scramble to get your kids out the door in the morning.  However, when I saw her in the same pajamas one day when I was picking up my child… maybe it’s time to consider what your clothes are saying about you?  There are a lot of casual choices out there that are appropriate for public, and don’t make you look like you just woke up.

Clothes that fit well (not skin tight or not big and baggy) are a great start.  This is an easy way to flatter your positive aspects.  And when you feel the need for extreme comfort, try some flattering yoga pants instead of those old sweats, an ugly jumpsuit or pajamas.  Also, please stay away from the socks with sandals!  It may be comfortable but it doesn’t look good.  Take a good look and consider asking a friend – what are your clothes saying about you?

Try Something New.  Even though it is coming back in style or it still fits “after all these years” – it may be time to say goodbye. If the style is back, it has most likely been updated.  And if you can still get those jeans past your hips, it doesn’t mean they still have a look that flatters your body, especially if anything has changed or shifted since you bought them.  So go ahead and get rid of those out-of-date clothes – especially no more shoulder pads or acid wash jeans.   But do keep in mind – not every new trend is for everybody!  Buy the look that is right for your body.  If you aren’t sure about the cut of the jean, try them all on.  These days you could even take a digital camera into the dressing room and then go home and compare!  Also, is your hairstyle stuck in time?  A great stylist can go a long way to finding a new flattering cut and will be able to suggest new hair products.  You may find that the hair you’ve been “stuck with” all these years can now be managed in all kinds of new ways.

Accessorize.  If you have a staple that still works, it may be time to update what you are putting with it.  Try to update the look with a trip down the accessory aisle!  There’s some great fresh ideas that you could try, such as: a fun belt, a colorful flower brooch, a long & layered necklace, a punch of bright colored or metallic shoes and/or a purse, or a sweater or jacket with a new cut that flatters you.
